An evening of solace in Tagore's verse

Thou hast made me known to friends whom I knew not. Thou hast given me seats in homes not my own. Thou hast brought the distant near and made a brother of the stranger.

I am uneasy at heart when I have to leave my accustomed shelter; I forget that there abides the old in the new, and that there also thou abidest.

Through birth and death, in this world or in others, wherever thou leadest me it is thou, the same, the one companion of my endless life who ever linkest my heart with bonds of joy to the unfamiliar.

When one knows thee, then alien there is none, then no door is shut. Oh, grant me my prayer that I may never lose the bliss of the touch of the one in the play of many.

[Geetanjali Song Offerings: verse 63]

The thought of these lines bubbled through my memory this evening. Not remembering the exact verse made me feel all the more desperate to look for these lines. Thanks to internet (Source: http://www.myads.org/tagore/tagore63.shtml) it wasn't very difficult.

The lines are so very consoling to a heart that has been experiencing good and bad changes in relationships after marriage. The fading significance of old and new relations with a greater onus on the beginning of a fresh social life, walked me to a sound philosophy on the acceptance of a myriad changes.

Oh well! not only at a personal level but these strings of words and faith in God is beautifully expressed for any multiethnic contentions and many other difficulties we face as humans in adapting to something: a new place that we inherit for various logical reasons but our heart longs for the older comfortable 'shelter'; new strangers, neighbours or friends; new language, occupation etc.

If I take these struggles to be a reason of cultural variability then the (religious) faith is something that has this universal culture and reaches out to everybody who clings to it irrespective of a sea of variations......

No talking allowed!

Fun it is to face the challenge of communicating name of a movie to your partner(s). Yeah! talking about dumbsher arts! If you have tried it and are an expert already in doing this, even then haven't you missed the subtle and great fun of this game called dumbsher arts! Where 'car' can be best conveyed by the action of steering, The use of the knowledge of how your partners can best relate to it is just unbeatable.

It all begins with a tough tough movie name suggested to the victim actor....More abstract the name better it is. Starts with a set of fixed signs decided in the group.. like thumps up/down for language of the film... The real fun begins with guessing of the word, pronouns, adjectives, verbs... no limitation... and the dumbfounded conveyor of the movie name gets a real kick when a similar sounding or meaning word comes from the guessing junta... and rolls of laughter and fun fills the heart of the player when a funny funny term gets guessed...

and the disclosure or right guess of the 'name' gives such a relief..

so much for a 'name' without language.....

Arbit life!!!

Seem to be crazily grappling with some system in life...
with the privilege of lazy pace of working... some sequences or recurring events are assumed... as in annual judgement of my work would just occur..and I would sail through just as ever...

not only work... living in general with less worries for these sequential and systematics that poor brain of mine struggles with... is nice!

reading old mail exchanges among we friends...
looking at old albums... spending time looking fr the right kinda movie I want to watch... n spend hours watching it in parts on youtube with a slow net...

quite restless n easily travelling just to meet more friends... n family...

like this arbitrariness :))

I thought it is an era of inter-disciplinary subjects......

The age old discipline division of arts, commerce and science (just an alphabetical order] goes on n on.....

In minds of the parents of the school kids, who are make this choice, the bias for a so-called successful living being dependent on this choice is still relevant. It is only the beginning or just one of the predominant practices of the society (not refuting the fact that things are of late changing for good).

Other instance, I particularly noticed was a mention in a leading newspaper, of supporting of such a bias or may be just being satirical of the idea that people from a particular discipline are meant to be sluggish in their work. Can you take a guess which discipline or stream(another term used in the schools)was being talked about?

hmmm! It was 'arts' ---- also called Humanities and Social Sciences...

Claiming oneself to be on the way of becoming an artist, scientist or an entrepreneur fr that matter doesn't help the streams. actually we need some great help in this noble pretext of living our lives...

I'll tell you how...
We know the importance of all the fields of study is not measured in a hierarchical fashion. Application of some knowledge or training can be more rewarding professionally and monetarily, hence one field can be more in fashion...

But when the 'body' of knowledge needs a holistic or at least a fair account, where does 'hands' become more important than the 'ears'. Don't they have their functions incomparably significant?

Well! the other two dire needs for such a help are:

One, better and broader minds to comprehend the interlinking, influencing, over-lapping or far-fetched connections between the disciplines. For example, Mathematics and Statistics feature as a subject of relevance in all the three streams to the extent that these subjects are taught to an honors student from all the three streams.
Philosophy is a fundamental discipline, it means all the areas of study have roots in it...if it does not concern one's work or research work doesn't mean it is not so.

Two, again a better and broader mind to respect all the fields of study equally. It sounds like a feud between majority and minority population. Minority always complains for being victimized and majority will never accept it with whole heart in the fear of losing or sharing some taken for granted privileges.

This is not a case of majority-minority issue. It does not demand an application of the fundaes of egalitarian society either. It just needs an open mind to respect the difference in the line of thought of a fellow field of study or a student pursuing it, which may not be of ineterst to everyone but is no inferior to any of the others nor is it typically intolerable...................

It's special to be social!!

I might have born individual like all animals and have also got to live up to the a social nature of my species....yet something was unnoticed that just clicked this morning.

This morning was special by itself coz I could add the joy of my wee hours exercise and work to it.
Also lived some minutes of music, love and efforts to see the time attentively.

Only when I had 20 min to have my breakfast and reach somewhere in time, it was my turn to learn some physics lesson. A full 1 kg bottle of honey could not be supported by a paper bag.... the handle broke and so did the bottle... The fall of predetermined...only it never occurred to me beforehand.

I was blank as in what to do next. A friend I passed by few seconds ago suggested 'pick it up'. Then on the brain worked, I cleared the bag taking out the honey bathed things... The same friend offered to get me a plastic bag... I replied "I don't have one" though...hihihihihi

It occurred to me and I managed to give her some things to keep in a separate plastic bag. And then, started carrying the dripping bag to the dustbin...n stopped thinking it would b a greater mess....Another set of group of friends asked if they could help me...

Can you take a guess?

I stared and when asked again asked fr a suggestion as in what to do next...

The reply in imperative "Throw it away" did work wonders.

This part settled, I thanked and moved to mess..had anothr friend to talk to at the breakfast table.... and discuss this with other things and then forget about this...

Another dear thing was disturbed in the midst of all his work later.. and had to listen to this story and self-learned 'special social' moral of mine.

The day began well...and is going good!

me, Kash & Cruise

This is the name of the play I saw last Saturday. The major crowd-puller for this group would have been Rajit Kapoor but cheers goes to the young actors who actually represented the youth of Mumbai. How coming from two different social class and three religious beliefs, a theater group of three friends , who are actually kinda representatives of three ways of living, begin to act together in college and stick to each other in spite of great differences and fights (including a small angle of love triangle).

Apt use of sound and light esp. doing justice to the with a major challenge to showcase the '93 riots. Humorous but firm dialogues of the characters. Mixing of other languages in an English play had done wonders. 'coz we cannot get the feel of a hawaldar talking in anything but local Marathi and a Muslim Delhiite bringing in Panjabi and Hindi-Urdu. But the actor who played 'Puja Thomas' was just purrr-fect!! She could be a young college girl and a sulking high class woman who finally needed psychiatric help representing that Mumbai that has been quoted to be soooooo very resilient but weak at the core.Other two boys Ajit and Neil were awesome in the characters of 'typical brother in bollywood' and 'intellectual killer of theater' Rajit Kapoor's changing appearences and roles were a great bonus to the viewers.

But man! the commercial clutter sucked the charm!! :(( slide shows of loooong videos one after the other at the beginning and after interval were really really not welcome! And no leaflet to give u a glimpse of the play, its story, actors etc. On top of it, the commendable writer, producer of the play actually bored us a bit at the time of intro of the makers and actors of the play.

Have heard there is another Rajit Kapoor play coming up in the first weekend of March! Hope to make it to that too...

Another failure!

No...really no clue how am I going to deal with this second failure in 2kyuu exam. Not only it has been a waste [in a way] of the investment of time and attention to it but comes with it also the feeling of failure that shrouds my spirits. I am really not well at dealing with the process of taking the same exam again and again and not clearing it. It will have some affect on my mainstream struggle for research too.

The dark clouds....please spare my being!!

Let me try and check what have I lost!
Nothing really but confidence...
But how can I not build it up again...do I have any other options..
Oh! shame it has been on me to have not cleared it the second time.

Gosh! the pattern n level concept has changed too from this year..in such case I must attend the classes again with the same teachers. They will be so disappointed with me. They and I together felt Level 2 would be realizable for me. But, alas! it has come to this that I should and I must clear it this time...leaving no stone unturned.

Dear God! Give me light! I know you have done so always... and the light has always been there. Thanks for being there with us forever. Lemme take the only another chance and enliven up my spirits and give enough confidence to myself by doing it asap!

Well! it's not like pressing a button and getting the thing required. I need proper planning and true dedication to deserve to definitely clear it this time!

May God be with us all!

"Failure to prepare is preparing to fail" --- got this quote when I was looking for an image for failure to paste it here. The quote says it all!

Violence in Speech

Well! this is influenced by the last Douglas Allen's lecture on Hind Swaraj, Gandhi and its relevance today. It isn't something new but we seem to forget very often that the likes of hitting, scratching, burning, bombing, shooting only do not classify as violence. Shouting, grumbling, frowning and for that matter silence too my friends can be so very violent. We all know this somewhere. Yet we think we didn't have a better option or choose it as an option that gives quicker results.

To illustrate the point lets notice how we try to ignore the beggars. Of course, it is useless to give alms 2 each one of them or even manage with there running around ur vehicle at the traffic signals. At the workplace, one can't help not hating a few people. How about noticing our behaviour towards them..... hihihihihi Number of such instances occur throughout the day when we aither become or make people around us victim of our violent speech.

Now, just being polite doesn't help much either. People and their minds are very smart to understand things that are unspoken yet meant. Thats how sometimes rude replies are preferred to the indirect polite ones.

Oh my my! The only way not to be violent is to be peaceful...
Lets watch out our speech!

When I was blaming the administration....

If I am the aam junta, my work in the administrative offices are to be done only on my efforts. The simple mantra is that I be concerned about my work. C'mon that's how it is. Don't have to believe the paper is moved unless it actually moved in front of my eyes. However, there is a very practical way of learning there rules and regulation. I can be ignorant and when in the last minute some other paper doesn't seem to be moving, I have to go back and hunt for the earlier discrepancies that have led from my not paying due attention. Well, ignorance isn't a bliss in this case. If I ask questions I am told "You should know". So, I give two adjectives to myself - irresponsible and ignorant.

I cannot be short-tempered either. If I am, either the time taken increases and the work done inches out relatively at the mercy of the people on the other side of the table. No No. I, by no means, intend to say the other side is not good to us. Well! I was very politely asked for chocolates for the kids of the concerned person. It was very human. Kids do like chocolates but my likes and dislikes are ignored completely always.......... These people are also very responsible. People like me trouble them every now and then with our abovementioned peculiar traits.

Honestly, I feel bad for them. They are under continuous tremendous pressure unlike us. They have to stick to the rules of hierarchy in the office and then they are not know-alls. How can they let you know the procedure they themselves aren't sure of? After all, the plan of action for each of their colleagues follow are so variant and creative. Also, everytime there is a problem they are to be blamed. This isn't fair! Even though the blaming population actually deals with them in person, we are selfish. We work for ourselves and they work for us [possibly without any returns].

Here onwards, I understand it better than I did so earlier. Let me take lessons from this be prepared for the future ones. Who knows, if I ever go on the other side of the table, I might end up being subjected to similar blames and then.......... God save me the repentance!

Simplicity

S for Simple and Simplicity...Can be used as a Noun and majorly as a quality...
Some call it a missing life...others call it sensitivity..

grim it luks to the gaudy men, soothing it is to the poorsome
no one aims for one where, difficult to attain when done

too much of it may never suffice but lack of it might keep u shunned..
lesser simplified more complex, this is not simplicity that u pretend

it is not a dearth of keeping nor an art of presenting
to gain this state the poor and the rich employ equal working

comes straight from heart that all of us have...with our unique presence
words get warmth, etiquettes turn real..with the recognition of ones quintessence

where wud u stand and put me where in a scale of this simplicity?
worry not! as in or out is at least sure though constant is its relativity...

Sorry for being selfish...

Most of my time goes waste managing my own thoughts, tensions, anxiety and other such emotions. When I listen to a story or a narration, I think over it or say listen to it like I was the main character...so next time please tell me, that's your story and I need to listen to it putting myself in your shoes...can't assure you of my selflessness even then..

So self-conscious I have been. Is that the root cause of this state. But what if I had not been self-conscious. Would that have been logical for people...

Will anybody believe me if I said I'm tensed because someone else is in a problem, who is not my relative, friend.... a complete stranger... Suppose I take the burden of someone else's work and do it and... forget mine, will that be appreciated by anybody [at least by the recipient of this help] ?

Won't you doubt my intentions if I did something like that for you? When the whole world struggles to live by oneself....what force do you think will drive me to work other than my self's worldliness?

Ah! not being wordly also needs a constant urge to self-enlightenment...I claim not any knowledge on this phenomenon though!

But like normal humans, if people like us don't interfere much in your work, you should be thankful... I know the danger of not looking at anything other than I but haven't I come this far to acknowledge the other's presence no matter if only with respect to self...

Let me admit! I am selfish. That makes my life easier. Less expectations... more concentration...

Anywez... how does my being so matter to anybody else... aren't you and others also very instinctively the same??

My introduction to madhubani painting

Last time I went home, I happened to meet my mom’s Madhubani painting teacher. Learning this painting was a new exciting development for maa… she has been learning and doing other kinds of paintings n other forms of art that are pretty common at personal, domestic level.
Her teacher seems to be struggling to earn her living, however knowledge of this art form fetches us some benefits. My mother met her in an ethnic art mela at my place.

Earlier, this painting has been done with a straw n not a brush. These days inkpen nib is used. Also, the natural colours have been replaced by fevicryl paints. This nib is fixed in the body of a painting brush for ready use. The idea or say the chanllenge or speciality of this painting is that only lines are drawn and it makes up to a whole figure.

Instead of filling up the outlines with colors, further smaller strokes

are used to fill them up. These strokes can be like curves, can be horizontal, vertical and as symmetrical they and the gaps between them are

better they are considered to be.

It becomes difficult as complex the picture gets. Look at the design of the dress of the girl and the bangles in the picture below.

And The scales of fish in the right...it has lot of overlapping lines...which
needs to look neat and needs lot of practice.

Haven't tried any such strokes myself but have only begun to understand this painting which though belongs to our part of country and receives acclaims worldwide.... but we ourselves don't do much to encourage it's healthy survival.

Luv you Lucky

These days Mohit Chauhan is the voice of allthe popular hits like Rock on.... n New York 'tu ne jo na kaha'. Don't know how to connect but his voice n style reminds me of you Lucky.I remember of having heard you last was only in a kind of not so popular Ahista Ahista from a Ranbir Kapoor's flick. But I also remember huge, great articles on you in TOI Sunday Life magazine.... I associated the sweet dulcet sound adjective only to your voice ans songs since then. It shows still a big fan of yours da.........But I have a feeling these dez the place [n not a peak] that you had created for yourself is taken over by some new entries in a very natural yet unusual way...

I like them all but miss your music. I kno the music industry also goes on the formula of main pal do pal ka shayar hoon. But your fans still look forward to your swan song yaar. I am sure you haven't given your the best and can still put up a fight and show your metal. Waiting for the lucky shine all over again.......

Nilekani Vs Laloo

The Infosys guy quits the company job to start this mega project to give us all Indians a unique ID. Laloo is still in politics just because some unexplainable snags of our election rules where same guy can contest from two places. Well it acted like a savior for Laloo.
A newspaper quotes Nilekani where he jokingly says he lost his identity…….And Laloo sounds helpless having lost Railway Ministry to Mamata. At least she has goals to reach…. Like get the Bengal’s CM’s kursi.
Laloo complains of things not being the same and not going good… Well! For 15 yrs things were going gr8 in a state that almost had a state of anarchy.
We don’t even exactly know the motivations of Nilekani having taken this ID business with govt….But it seems to work against the menace of false identity.
Who would you like to read about - the RJD supremo who only brought glory to himself through hilarious catchy statements or the guy who made his deeds speak for himself so far?

A Movie Experience……

This movie was left unseen in the downloads, asusual waiting for a train journey. But it happened so, it was long forgotten as well. Luckily, today I watched it in train and co-passengers in my compartment seemed to be interested in watching a must watch but a very unpopular movie.

‘Ramchand Pakistani’ claims to be talking about a true story of an innocent kid and his father from Pakistan who are taken as prisoner by Indian Army just for crossing the border. As the disclaimer said, the characters were sketched with an unbeatable honesty. With every scene I feared if a difficult-to watch gory or violent thingie would crop up. But the ‘respect for the truth’ of the filmmaker made it least sensational and the most impactful story. It triggered a lot of questions and curiosity about border issues in the minds of the viewers through the movie and left us with a positive end but a senti feeling.

Hats off to Nandita Das , I respect her professional work. Reminds me of an idea in Bhagvad Gita which says such devoted tasks turn out to be inspirational for all others who even passively get to know it.
